New Delhi hosts 6th India-Arab Partnership conference on "New Horizons in Investment, Trade & Services”

During the 6th India-Arab Partnership conference, Ausaf Syeed, Secretary (CPV&OIA) of the Ministry of External Affairs, disclosed that discussions on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have resumed. This significant announcement was made within the framework of the Arab-Indian Cooperation Forum. The conference, titled "New Horizons in Investment, Trade & Services," brought together ministers, senior officials, and businesspersons from Arab states and India.The 6th India-Arab Partnership conference witnessed the participation of key stakeholders from both Arab states and India, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral ties. Ausaf Syeed's update on the resumption of FTA discussions between India and the GCC showcased the commitment to enhance economic cooperation. “India and GCC have resumed discussions on concluding the Free Trade Agreement. We have exchanged preliminary documents, and the delegations have been meeting. We hope this will soon become a reality, bringing newer opportunities for business on both sides,” Sayeed said during his special address.In addition, the Secretary alluded to the discussions on exploring alternative forms of trading with GCC nations. “There are discussions with our bilateral partners, talks about Rupee trading, barter trading and many other things, especially under the circumstances where most countries are facing challenges of foreign currency,” he saidThe conference serves as a flagship initiative by both sides, offering an institutional platform for fostering strong engagement between the business communities. Through the previous five editions, the conference has played a pivotal role in establishing the roadmap and promoting economic cooperation between India and the countries of the League of Arab States (LAS). It has successfully facilitated the laying of foundations and synergizing efforts to enhance collaboration in various sectors between the two regions.V Murleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs (MoS) inaugurated the conference and delivered a keynote address. From the Arab Side, the Conference was led Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Al Malki, Assistant Secretary General, and Head of the Economic affairs of the League of Arab states headquarters who gave a welcome address.The conference witnessed a Ministerial-level inaugural session followed by special sessions focusing on investment climate and opportunities. Distinguished speakers provided insights into the current state of India-Arab cooperation across various sectors, including healthcare, food and energy security, resilient supply chains, and the exchange of expertise and best practices. Emphasis was placed on the crucial role of the private sector in expanding trade and investment relations.During the conference, Secretary Ausaf Sayeed (CPV & OIA) hosted a dinner for dignitaries, speakers, and participants from both the Arab and Indian sides. The Minister of State (MOS) attended the event as the chief guest. In the concluding session, Secretary (CPV & OIA) delivered a special address to the participants.The conference was jointly organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and the League of Arab States (LAS), in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Federation of Arab Businessmen (FAB), and the Union of Arab Chambers (UAC). Assam to offer customised incentives to investors: CM Himanta Biswa

You are here: Home > State > AssamGuwahati, July 13 (KNN) Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma assured on Wednesday that the state government is working to remove all constraints for industry to invest in the state.He further stated that in order to attract more industry to the state, the government is going to talk with each investor and develop precise approaches for each investment.Addressing the ‘FICCI National Executive Committee Meeting’, the CM said that in last few years we are moving away from inflexible policy towards a Customized Investment Policy.“The requirement of every industry is different and whenever an investor wants to set up an industry in Assam, the Empowered Committee takes a decision about industry’s requirement, which is cleared by the Cabinet,” he said.The CM further stated that the government has a clear roadmap for the development of Assam. “Transparency is the hallmark of our administration. We want to increase our capital investments, we need to work a lot in health and education segment which is our prime focus along with improving the infrastructure,” he added.Inviting the private sector to come forward and invest in the state, he said that we have seen huge capital investments by the Union government in the North-Eastern region.“We are now thinking more and more in terms of capital investment, connectivity. We are going ahead with our big vision of transforming Assam as a growth engine for India. In next 3 years, Assam will be at par with any other advanced Indian state,” he added.He also stated that for the first ever time FICCI is holding its National Executive Committee Meeting in Guwahati which is a huge endorsement of Assam’s emergence as an attractive investment destination.K Moses Chalai, Secretary, North Eastern Council while addressing the session ‘Connecting India’s North-East to the World’, described the rapid changes in north eastern states.“It is time that we seize all opportunities that is coming, and I see Industry 4.0 can pick up very well in the region. The Northeast region is much more open to investments unlike in the past. It is opportune time for FICCI and other industry to give a renewed look to the Northeast,” he added.Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan said, “The deep sea Matarbari port in Bangladesh funded by JICA will be operational by 2027 and be a gamechanger for the entire region to connect North Eastern states to sea ports.”“One of the key pillars of Prime Minister Kishida is the new industrial value chain in the Bay of Bengal. India is the top recipient of Japan's official development assistance. Our PM wants to connect various projects of JICA and reach out to friends in India and Bangladesh.
